Work READY, Future Strong is CAYA’s employment readiness program focused on building practical tools, confidence, and self-advocacy for success at work. Participants gain the skills needed to navigate job searches and workplace expectations with greater clarity and independence.
Through small-group coaching and hands-on learning, the program addresses core workplace skills including communication, resumes and interviews, time management, self-advocacy and accommodations, and understanding workplace “hidden rules.” Each week introduces a focused employment topic designed to support real-world application.
Work READY, Future Strong bridges the gap between talented individuals and inclusive workplaces by equipping participants with the skills, confidence, and self-awareness needed to advocate for themselves, grow professionally, and build sustainable careers.

But First, READY was created in direct response to community feedback calling for a program specifically designed for teens and young adults preparing for their first volunteer role, internship, or part-time job. Built on the proven success of CAYA’s original READY program, this experience adapts our most effective modules to meet participants earlier in their journey.
Unlike READY, But First, READY places a deeper emphasis on aligning skills and interests with real-world opportunities, understanding how volunteering and internships can lead to paid employment, and strengthening communication and interpersonal skills essential for early workplace success.
This 12-module, foundations-focused program builds communication, processing, and planning skills while helping participants explore their strengths and interests—providing a confident, supported first step into work, internships, or volunteering.
But First. READY begins on April 13th and will be on Mondays and Wednesdays for 6 weeks at Virginia Wesleyan University. Use the READY application link below to learn more.
